Oxnard Gem and Mineral Society
A 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization
Privacy Policy
Effective Date: May 11, 2026
Welcome to the Oxnard Gem and Mineral Society (OGMS) website! We are a community of gem, mineral, and lapidary enthusiasts based in Oxnard, California. Protecting your privacy matters to us, and we want to be completely transparent about how our website works and what (very little) information we may encounter when you visit.
Please take a moment to read this policy, we’ve written it in plain language so it’s easy to understand.
1. Who We Are
The Oxnard Gem and Mineral Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in California. Our mission is to promote education, appreciation, and enjoyment of gems, minerals, fossils, and the lapidary arts. We do not sell products or services for profit, and we do not engage in any commercial data collection or marketing. Fees collected for classes and field trips are used to support the club and community enrichment programs.
2. We Do Not Use Cookies
We want to be upfront: our website does not use cookies. This means:
We do not place any tracking cookies on your device.
We do not use advertising or analytics cookies.
We do not follow you around the internet after you leave our site.
There are no cookie consent banners to click through, because there’s nothing to consent to!
You can browse our site freely without any concern about cookie-based tracking.
3. Our Website Platform — Sitejet & cPanel
Our website is built and hosted using Sitejet, a website builder operating through cPanel web hosting. While we do not intentionally collect personal data, please be aware of the following:
Server Logs
Like virtually all web servers, our hosting provider automatically records basic technical information in server logs whenever someone visits a website. This may include:
Your IP address (a number that identifies your internet connection)
The date and time of your visit
Which pages you visited on our site
The type of browser and device you used
The website you came from (if any)
These server logs are a standard part of how the internet works and are managed by our hosting provider. We do not actively review, store, or use this information for any purpose. These logs are typically retained briefly for security and technical troubleshooting only.
Third-Party Platform Policies
Sitejet and cPanel are third-party services with their own privacy practices. We encourage you to review their privacy policies if you have questions about how they handle technical data at the infrastructure level. We have no control over their internal data handling.
4. Information You Choose to Share With Us
Our website may include ways for you to contact us voluntarily, such as an email address, contact form, or membership inquiry form. If you reach out to us:
We only receive the information you intentionally provide (such as your name and email address).
We use your information solely to respond to your inquiry or process your membership.
We do not sell, rent, or share your contact information with third parties.
We do not add you to any mailing lists without your explicit permission.
As a small non-profit, your information is handled by volunteer members who are your fellow rock and gem enthusiasts — not marketing departments!
5. Children’s Privacy
Our website is a family-friendly resource. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has submitted personal information to us, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
Our Pebble Pups kids' club only collects information from parents or guardians about their children offline. Paper copies are kept secure and not shared with other organizations without express permission, for such times as field trip or other activities requiring information for safety reasons. All information to be shared is pre-approved by the parent or guardian.
6. Links to Other Websites
Our site may contain links to external websites — for example, links to gem show information, lapidary resources, or affiliated organizations. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those external sites. We encourage you to review their privacy policies when you visit them.
7. California Privacy Rights
As a California-based organization, we recognize the rights of California residents under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and other applicable state laws. Because we collect little to no personal information, most CCPA provisions have limited practical application to our site. However, we are committed to honoring your rights:
Right to Know: You may ask us what personal information we have about you.
Right to Delete: You may request deletion of any personal information we hold.
Right to Non-Discrimination: We will never treat you differently for exercising your privacy rights.
To make any such request, simply contact us using the information at the bottom of this policy.
8. Data Security
We take reasonable precautions to protect any information you share with us. Because we collect very little personal data and do not operate a database of user information, our exposure is minimal. Our website is hosted on a professionally managed platform with standard security measures in place.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may occasionally update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our website or applicable laws. When we do, we’ll update the Effective Date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of our website after any changes means you accept the updated policy.
10. Contact Us
If you have any questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re a friendly bunch!
